DAH Review Spotlight

Happy Friday, everyone!

I got a real treat this Friday and got to read one of the most creative (and pretty darn funny) review of Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed on Frayed Wire.

Don’t believe me?  Here’s an excerpt:

Josh60502: Hypnotizing people always made them dance; I would have liked to see something else happen.

JustMattPwn3r: I would’ve liked more disco or something else stereotypically 70’s.

Josh60502: Too much disco can be bad.

JustMattPwn3r: Yeah, but so can not enough.

Aside from being a completely honest review from not one but three perspectives, they bring up some important questions concerning gaming in general.  Is it possible to blur the lines between casual and hardcore games?  How well do games translate to other forms of media, like television shows?

…And what is the right amount of disco?

it would have been cooler to see them vomiting blood or somthing, instead they did disco dancing. i guess it was fine… but it may be a sign they were avoiding doing work, or being laszy. still good game!

  2. Oddball Says:

I believe the right amont of disco is no disco at all (what a horrible idea disco is).

As I digress, I don’t think that a game that treds the line of hardcore and casual is going to be a smash hit. Take for example the game Excite Truck for the Nintendo Wii. They were trying to attract the hardcore gamers by introducing a sequel to the popular game, Excite Bike, and to attract casual gamers by introducing a control setting that was easier to use (which it was). The only problem was is that it didn’t offer a lot else. Sure, I think it’s a really good game, but the general public tends to disagree with me. If you’re going to make a game, choose which crowd you want to attract. If you focus on one thing instead of two, it seems to work a little bit better. As for wondering if games can be good TV shows….just watch the Super Mario Brothers for that answer.
